[HOSTING OUTAGE] 1st July 2005 20:40-21:07

Hi,

Tonight we experienced a 40 minute denial of service attack which caused a 40 minute outage. The cause of this attack was multiple users with insecure websites who had not secured their sites properly.

As a result of this, the user's sites have been suspended. In addition, I have made the following changes on the Linux servers, please be advised if you have a problem please submit it to support@catalyst2.com where it will be examined:

1. New version of the custom security module has been installed with tighter lockdowns on the extent of HTTP POST arguments.
2. Increased localised firewalling of outgoing customer script traffic.
3. "noexec" flag marked on the /tmp partitions of the servers.

If such incidents continue to happen, open_basedir restrictions may well be put into effect.

Thanks for your co-operation, and many apologies for the period of downtime.

Thanks,
Rob

Further to the previous post, all users who run phpBB and installed through cPanel will find their account is currently suspended. Please contact support and your account will be unsuspended for 24hrs to allow you to upgrade.
