DNS/Name Server changes - website url different to ftp?

Hi

Just changed the name servers for a client's domain to ns1.catalyst2.net and ns2.catalyst2.net. the websute url (www.countrydesks.co.uk) now shows the Catalyst2 holding/parking page, but I cannot get FTP access to the site - it says Login incorrect.

Do I need to wait longer for the name server changes to propagate through?

Cheers
Al

Sounds like an issue with your username / password for FTP, check you have set them up correctly in your control panel. If you moved the nameservers, and the holding page is showing, then the ftp address should be up-to date too. If not, somewhere around here is a thread which lists an IP that can be used to get at the FTP before the domain fully propogates, so try searching for that.

If I remember rightly, all the ftp access runs through the same server, in which case a simple nslookup of my ftp address will give a ip that should work for you : 84.18.207.6

Have managed to upload using the IP address, but still cannot use the countrydesks.co.uk user name.

Anyone any thoughts? Am I just being impatient???

If it's a windows account, the FTP account is created as soon as you set it up in helm, so it should work straight away. I'm not sure about linux accounts.

I would suggest re-setting your FTP password and if the problem continues, then open a support ticket.

Sorry, my mistake.

I used the 84.18.207.6 address and the countrydesks user name. I can't use the ftp.countrydesks.co.uk address in SmartFTP though.

Make sense?

I just checked (don't know why I didn't before) and your ftp address is resolving correctly, so it may just be thats your ISP's DNS servers have the old address cached for a while. To check this you can run nslooukp ftp.countrydesks.co.uk at the comment prompt, the IP address should be the same as I posted above, if not, try waiting a day or so to allow the cache to expire and try again.

Thanks everyone - looks like it was just me being impatient. Tried this morning under the usual ftp address & all's sweet.

Cheers
