Domain alias

Just a quick question on this....

I currently have two domains running for a website. The first (old) site redirects to the second (new).

Would I be better off running the first as an alias thus freeing up a domain on my package? Am I understanding the world of aliases correctly?

Seems a shame to have a domain purely for a redirect...what a waste!

cheers
Rob

Rob

We do this for www.designandimplement.co.uk - it is aliased and points at www.designandimplement.com and works fine.

If you do create the alias then you should do a redirect back to the main domain so that users only ever see one domain name. Google and other search engines will penalise you if you have multiple sites with the same content which is what aliases are effectively. You need to ensure the aliases perform a permanent (301) redirect.
