Spam Strategy

What is Catalyst2's plan for dealing with spam in the short and long term?

I love the service and value Catalyst2 provide but the level of spam is getting worse IMHO. (I am on the Windows platform) So much that I am considering leaving and finding a host that uses Brightmail. I would happily pay extra for a spam solution.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Hi,

We are aware of the issue and currently working on a solution, we are currently testing out some third-party spam solutions. There is no definite timeline at the moment but we will let all customers know as soon as we have more information.

Regards,

Jacob

Just to echo Jacob, we have already evaluated one spam solution, and have a test box from another vendor on its way shortly. As soon as we have finished comparing them we will make an announcement on costs etc

Another solution that would mean you wouldn't have to leave Cat2 for you web hosting (face it, who would want to :P) would be to move just your email else where. I've already moved mine to the google for domains service, and it's great, but if you can't get into that (invite by google only beta atm) there are others who offer the service for a low cost (I've seen prices of 81p per month for 5 1GB mailboxes, which doesn't seem bad at all.

Cheers Dave, I've signed up so will see if I get selected. How long was it until you heard back? Do you just have one domain with them? Seems a great idea.

Also to do this did you just have to purchase the "DNS Zone Editor" on Helm?

It did seem to take a while before I heard back, I think I almost forgot about it by then. I did purchase the DNS Zone editor to make the changes myself, but if you open a ticket, Cat2 may do it for you. The thing I'm going to like most about it, once it gets sorted out, is that they offer the same xmpp service as they do to gmail users (google talk) so you can talk to a lot of people that use the xmpp/jabber services, using your email account hosted by them.

Hi Paul

Is there any update on this? When will you be making an announcement on spam protection? The level of spam to our URL is growing all the time!

John

We are putting the appliance that we have received for testing into the first stage of the evaluation over the course of this weekend. We then have a ~4 week evaluation run to put the machine through.

Bumpety-bump. Any update? I'm getting about 30-40 junk e-mails a day at the moment.
