E-Mail Issues - Duplicate emails

Hi, I have a number of customers that I have moved to Catalyst's Windows packages. For all but one of them downloading the email with Microsoft Outlook works no problem. But for one of them I am getting occasional strange email problems and I wonder if anyone else is experiencing something similar.

What happens is that most of the time he can download his email from the catalyst servers through Outlook no problem. But occasionally, the email download fails. Each time he retries it fails and of course Outlook fails to clear the messages down from the server. He ends up getting a lot of duplicate emails. The only way to get out of this cycle is to log into webmail and manually delete all the spam messages from the server.

The customer does get a lot of spam email and I thought that that was the problem. However, another customer of mine recently had his PC away getting repaired. When he got it back I reconfigured his Outlook to obtain his email from Catalyst. Outlook successfully download all the email from the catalyst server without any problems. 490 of the 500 emails were spam.

So I am at a loss as to what the problem is for this one customer. As it is an intermittent fault it is difficult for me to sort. He is starting to get annoyed about it so I am under pressure to find a solution soon.

Another point about the problem user is that he has Norton Anti-Virus 2004 installed. However, my PC also has NAV2004 installed and I have never had any problem with mail through Catalyst.

Has anyone else encountered this problem ?
Or any suggestions ?

Thanks

Hi,

This is usually due to a corrupt email that breaks outlook. Try logging in via webmail and see if there are any strange emails that can be deleted.

It is an intermittent problem so I cannot look for it today. It happened yesterday and seems to happen every 2-3 weeks. I have never encountered this sort of repeated issue before.

It is also strange that it only occurs on one of my customer's accounts despite another one receiving a lot of spam.
