Spam

I'm now getting about 800 spam a day to my domain mainly going to the "catchall" account as the email addresses are just permutations of the alphabet. If I don't set an account as catchall will the server just reply address not found on this domain and I can just ignore mail which is not specifically addressed to valid users?

Hi,

Yep thats correct, the server will just reject any mail sent to an address that you haven't setup in the control panel. It cuts down on quite a bit of spam.

We were in the same boat and dumping the catch all account was a real win. We'd also recommend the ANTI-SPAM service from Catalyst2 - this works really well.

Many thanks for your tips - they work a treat. The level of SPAM is at a totally unacceptable level now and I feel that it borders on bein criminal in some cases.

Yea, it just keeps increasing. Hopefully the new mail platform will reduce the levels slightly, but the spammers always find new ways to get round the standard defenses.
