Keeping users in the loop

Hey guys,

<RantMode>
I understand you've had to make significant configuration changes to ensure site stability and security. But why can't you keep us customers informed? There's nothing here about what has changed. Several times in the last three months you've changed something, and my web site has stopped working. I'm getting rather fed up with chasing after it. I've already moved from ASP to .Net 1.1 to .Net 2 in order to get basic facilities like email and uploading to work. I'm really not happy with the prospect of having to redesign how my file uploads and security work yet again, even if I can work out just what to do. And even worse, I've no way of knowing how long this solution will work for, and worse still, it will just stop working when something changes, and the first I get to hear about it is when a user lets me know its broken. You guys are seriously damaging my reputation as a web professional! Perhaps the right approach would be to email your customers when you are planning significant configuration changes so we can have a chance to sort things out before the change takes place?

In practical terms on the latest issue, I thought the recognised advice about managing file uploads was to fix them in subdirectories off your DB folder, which already has write access set up. I don't really want these files in my web space, and if I did I'm not sure I have permission to allow write access to my web folders anyway.

Off to cry in my beer...
Ian.

Ian,

The only thing we have changed in the last 6 months has been .net security, and we emailed all customers to explain what was changing, we also posted the same email on these forums.

There isnt much more we can do to communicate with customers than post on the forums and email I am afraid. If you are having any other issues please open a ticket and we will be more than happy to investigate them, however there have been no widespread changes since the .net security mods and we have none planned currently.

If anyone has any concerns please feel free to email me - paul@catalyst2.com

The DB folder should now have read write access from asp.net2. If you are still experiencing problems please raise a ticket and it'll get looked into.
