phpBB 2.0.15 released

A new update has just been released. We would recommend an upgrade to this version to ensure that any installations of phpBB remain secure and reliable.

For more information on this please visit: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=288194

We've had this argument with Mozilla 'Oh no, another update?' Firefox!
At least they are being updated!

I must admit, the first update I did took me all evening and I was sweating buckets.
Now it only takes a couple of minutes accompanied by mild fear.

I was pleased to see my phpBB install has been upgraded without needing my intervention!

Is this going to be the norm from now on?

I doubt it - 2.0.16 was a critical update and forums <2.0.16 were being exploited, so they needed to be updated ASAP.

... I assume!

Cpanel does update installs itself sometimes, you can also do this from your control panel if you installed phpbb through it.

By the sounds of it, 2.0.18 should be out soon!

phpBB Group announces the release of phpBB 2.0.17, the "no, we did not forget naming it last time" release. This release addresses several bugfixes and some low security issues as well as the recently seemingly wide-spread XSS issue (only affecting Internet Explorer).

With this announcement I want to give you some more information regarding phpBB's security. psoTFX (Paul S. Owen, Project Manager) initiated and brought forward the idea and concept of a complete security audit of the 2.0.x codebase. We introduced some top-notch security people, phpBB-Modders and very talented people from our teams to participate in this audit. We intend to implement the changes necessary - and also fixing the found issues, hopefully giving the now very aged codebase (it is still on a technical level from three years ago) a lift and bringing it up-to-date with security mechanisms and techniques which are common nowadays.
