Question How to create guestbook like this?

I like the look of this guestbook

and would like to do one similar for my site but not sure how this has been put together. Could someone please point me in the direction of a web resource that will talk me through this step by step as this is another new feature addition I need to learn.

Thanks all.

Al,

You have a two main options.

1. Go to a website like aspin.com and download a pre-made guestbook
2. Create on yourself.

The one you linked to looks like a simple script where to sign the guestbook you are adding to a database and then for viewing the guestbook you are looping through and displaying all the records in the database.

If you are keen on writing on yourself www.w3schools.com is a good place to get some example code and learn the basics.

If you have any further questions, just post back.

Regards,

Jacob

Great Jacob, that's exactly the kind of answer I'm looking for.

Cheers

I used to put guestbooks in my sites and all they tuirned out to be was a lot more work. I got all sorts of foreign (brazilian & italian types) inserting links to sex sites and poker affiliate programs.

Way more work than it was worth for me. I suppose it does work for some tho.

I know what you mean I have a free guestbook on my own site and I do get the spam entries you mentioned, a pain in the neck but how else do you do it?

A decent guestbook will have some form of vetting for entries with a choice to enable it or not. Plus it should email you with a copy of all entries as they are submitted so you can get rid of the rubbish if you don't wish to vet the entries....

Have you found a decent one yet?

Hello Tim. Well I found one calld web wiz but there's no instruction on how to use it yet and I suppose it will be putting some form of advertising on the top which is not the best. From the w3schools website I never did find an instruction on how to make a guestbook from scratch which ideally is what I want so I can learn.

I did like the one I mentioned at the top of this post, I dont suppose you have any code lying around do you that is quick for me to just insert or is it more complicated?

Best
Al

Heh, the one that I was talking about that gave me such a headache was from webwizguide.info.

The code is quite good for a free app but the backend interface is not very attractive at all. If you do decide to go with that one let me know via this and I will heelp you out on a little snippet of code I discovered for that app.

Have you tried searching aspin.com ?

Cheers Lee, I'll definately use that snippet of code you mention. But how do I get started with the code I downloaded, there's lots of files but no instructions?

THanks Jenny for that offer, I might take you up on it but I want to persist with the webwiz one first.

Lee: I have now found that readme instruction but, to be totally honest,, not sure how to proceed as it says I must set up a database first on my sql server? I'm a bit in the dark re web design, my current sight was rebuilt by someone who knows a thing or two.

Do you have a dummy's guide to install this by any chance?

Best
Al

Sorry mate.

Anyway else with a bit of sql knowledge fancy helping an up and coming scottish Robbie Williams ?
