how to make scroll bar on table text?

Hello all.

Does anybody know how to apply a scoll bar to a table containing text, using dreamweaver, but not using layers?? I have some text on the opening page of a site I am building but dont want to cram it all in so would like to be able to scroll through it, preferably not with a non generic windows scroll bar - something with colours that suit the colour scheme of the site.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks and happy new year to you all when it comes.

Al

Thumbs up

Ya beauty! That script looks just perfect for me, I can also add my own background images and personal scroll buttons!

Very good of you to share that with me.

Thanks a lot mate!

Best wishes
Al

Pinewood, when I add that javascript you mentioned, it seems to much up the page within dreamweaver, i.e. it creates a layer that spans way across the screen and it knocks my table out, however when I preview it it all seems to look good?

Any ideas why the DMWvr page looks odd?

It uses a different engine to render it than what IE or FF would. It will not work out any run time changes that the javascript might make either.

When dreamweaver shows the preview of what the page would look like, it does this purely from the HTML and CSS in the page. It is unable to interpret any javascript in the page, so things such as your scrolling table cell, which are controlled by javascript, will not be drawn correctly.

My apologies Al, I spend too much time with technically minded people.

As Dave says really. Browsers (such as IE (Internet explorer) and FF (Firefox)) use what are know as rendering engines to translate the HTML code to the visual page that we all see and use. Each browser has its own engine. These engines tend to differ slightly producing different results each time. If you search the web you'll find millions of articles on this.

So yes there is a good chance that Dreamweavers resulting page will be quite different to another browsers, especially considering that Dreamweavers engine has the additional task of allowing users to edit the page. In this case I suspect it's as Dave says.

Hope that helps and is clear.

Happy New Year mate
