phpBB Upgrade

Have people upgraded to the latest available version phpBB 2.0.19? I am still running phpBB 2.0.16.

I have downloaded the phpBB 2.0.19 [ Changed Files Only ] zip file and extracted the files. Clearly the zip called 2.0.16_to_2.0.19.zip contains the files that I will be using, but docs are very long winded. I upgraded phpBB some time ago, but I seem to recall it been very easy. Wasn't there a link on cPanel that automated the process?

If anyone else has done it that could provide more concise directions I would appreciate it. Alternatively, just a post to say that they have done it following the standard instructions. I think I just need someone to say; yes you have the right files and you just need to follow the instructions.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul,

If you have no MODs installed

Step 1
Download the “Changed Files Only” from the download page at phpBB.com, and unzip it to a directory at your hard drive

Step 2
Inside of this zip you'll see several more zip files. Unzip the one that refers to the version you're updating

Step 3
Upload all those files, while overwriting all old ones. You should also upload the /install and /contrib directory which can be found in the main zip file (phpBB-2.0.xx-files.zip)

Step 4
Run /install/update_to_latest.php trough your browser, using http://www.domain.com/phpBB/install/..._to_latest.php, for example

Step 5
Delete the /contrib and /install directories from your server

... and doing so poses no risk to the content of the forum?

I have updated on a couple of sites and it was fine - you are updating the files rather than the db so that should be no issue...always good to make a backup however

Regards,

Jacob
