Linux Shared Hosting Cluster
Hi,
Catalyst2 has recently brought an additional Linux shared hosting server online, in order to mitigate some of the issues that we've experienced recently - the problems will be mitigated by moving some of the domains on the current servers, mango.catalyst2.com, and banana.catalyst2.com, onto the new server - blueberry.catalyst2.com. In order for this transfer to take place, we will be decreasing the TTL on all domains across the Linux cluster. This will allow us to transfer those domains selected for migration with minimal downtime. The owners of the domains to be transferred will be notified of the maintenance period in which we will move their domain, and further details in a seperate email. In addition to bringing a new server online - some additional functionality will be added to the existing servers. The first addition is PHP5 support. There have been numerous requests for PHP5 from customers - but during our testing procedures, we have encountered numerous problems with the back-compatibilty between PHP5 and PHP4. In addition, some of the methods of running PHP5 alongside PHP4 have shown some problems. An acceptable solution has now been found - and we will be offering PHP5 support initially on blueberry, but on all Linux servers over the coming months. To run your scripts in PHP5, simply use .php5 as the extension on your filenames, any file ending .php, or .php4 will remain to be parsed in PHP4 - only the .php5 extension will be parsed by the PHP5 engine. We would also appreciate user's requests for features on the Linux-based servers. We are eager to add additional functionality that users may benefit from. Thanks in advance, Rob
