Need pointing in the right direction...
Hi,
I'm new to all this hosting malarkey, so please don't bombard me with jargon! ![]() I have had simple hosting before, but now I want a little extra and was told about cat2 by a friend. Now, I've had a little look through and think that the VPS is the option for me, but I don't have a clue about Linux and if it's possible to do what I want to do. So, my questions are: 1) How easy/hard (delete as appropriate) is it to learn the necessary to use this service? 2) Am I able to host a TS server using this service? 3) What about hosting game servers, is this possible too? If the answers to questions 2 or 3 are no, please can you let me know what package I might need if you do it? Thank you!

1) How easy/hard (delete as appropriate) is it to learn the necessary to use this service?
We recommend debian as the distribution of choice, it's really quite easy to use, there's the apt package manager to install programs and there are loads of setup guides etc out there to help you! 2) Am I able to host a TS server using this service? Yes, you could do, bear in mind though that the VPS isn't like a real system, it doesn't have as quick access to the CPU (as there are multiple VPS servers sharing the hosts real CPU). I've not tested a Teamspeak server, but yes, it is plausible 3) What about hosting game servers, is this possible too? No, gameservers are very intensive on the CPU of the host machine, because of the way that VPS servers work, hosting gameservers isn't really feasible. I'd recommend looking at either co-location or a dedicated server if you're wanting to run game servers. The package I'd go for the TS server would probably be VPS2, as the extra RAM will help. Rob
