Terms of Service for VPS bandwidth usage?
I'm currently doing research for $dayjob for external hosting of software package updates, and can't seem to find the TOS for the bandwidth usage with a VPS account. Our current traffic pattern is very bursty - idle for days at a time, and then 80 servers will get an update command and pull a 10 meg package down. Rather than purchase the VPS package and then run into trouble, I'd like to clarify the terms up front
Additionally, we may be looking to host a 200 meg install image, accessed several times per week as a new customer comes on board.

The AUP can be found here: http://www.catalyst2.com/vpsaup.html
The irregular bandwidth pattern sounds fine to me, please be aware that there's a 10Mbps burst on the VPS servers - so you'll be capped at a maximum burst of 10mbps. For 80 servers, even if they're all on 0.5Mbps broadband, you might be looking at more than 10mbps. The service will be fine for hosting what you're suggesting, but it may be slower than a dedicated server. Rob

Thanks for the prompt reply Rob - definitely one of the fastest I've had!
The 10 Mbit limit might not be that much of an issue - I'll have to ask my director. We're currently capped on a 1 Mbit burst circuit, so anything that goes faster is better! |
