Strange characters

I have created a page where people can add text to an ASP-driven page via a simple insert record command in Dreamweaver.

The problem I am having is that some of the text that people type on the page is copied from a Word document. It seems to carry across strange chracters such as squares (cannot replicate here!). You cannot see them when they are pasted but they appear in MS Access.

Does anybody know what this is?

I know vbcrlf is for breaking spaces in an input field. I was wondering if these characters have a similar code?

There are loads of characters that would produce that problem. Word's ' character is one offender. There are 3rd party solutions that clean up text from word.
