Ah, well pointed out, but it looks a bit wonky in Mozilla/Firefox... Might be worth having a look at it on a Mac in IE/Moz as well? (This is my current issue with true CSS... nice theory, tricky in practice). Any thoughts Jason? I'd like to play CSS but just can't see round the cross browser issues. Good luck Al!
Rich

Arrr I didn't see it in IE! There is quite a difference! CSS is always fun. I find the best way to use it is get it working in Mozilla and Opera which is very easy. Then play with IE. I have yet to find an CSS problem I can not solve however some have taken me days!
I am still in two minds about CSS, I think it is what the web needs to split data and formatting, however it needs more support from MS. It also needs some more funcionality in it, which will come when some of the big plays start with it, as macromedia have in there latest relase. This is what I guess has been done with Infinity Therapies, the site has been created with dreamweaver using its (now default) CSS way of working. I am also guessing that the developer hasn't put much work into Mozilla and the likes. I dont think it will take a lot of effort to fix it in Mozilla. However I said to my boss dynamically creating PDF's would be cheap and easy so what do I know! I put a lot of effort into Right Lines Ltd which now works in all browsers and OS's. It did take a lot of time and effort especially with IE5 and 5.5 - and you can just forget about anything with a 4! http://www.css-discuss.org/ is a great group of people who will be able to help with most CSS issues. To sum up. Personaly I think CSS is needed but requires more support and development, I will continue to support. All cross browser issues I found could be worked out but it takes effort. Jas

Thanks for the pointers. I'll have a go and see if I can get waxwing.co.uk into CSS just as a bit of a test and see how I go. Thanks for the links and info too, I'm sure Al will appreciate them too.
For the PDFs, have you tried itextsharp yet (http://itextsharp.sourceforge.net/)? I'm guessing you have, I was just wondering what the issues with it were (you said you'd tried the free ones)? I can happily make some basic pages but haven't tried anything too complicated yet so maybe there is something I haven't found yet. Anyway, sorry for going off topic Al, but all interesting I guess... Rich

Al James - Sorry for being off topic
Have tried that, resulted in being very stressed! Trying to create complex tables, and background images with text in strange places, will all the data pulled from a DB dynamically was not happening. You right though simple text documents are quite easy to do. Also need something that will do barcodes (but could do as images is needed). Jas

Thanks but...
Gentlemen...I have not got a clue what you are all talking about! I dont know what mozilla or firefox is, never heard of them.
I am a musician first and foremost and I just used a template to make my partner's site (www.infinitytherapies.co.uk) using dreamweaver. I hardly know dreamweaver I just know it's easy to use. My own site uses the same formula... http://www.aljames.co.uk I do appreciate all your feedback, I'm sure you'll enjoy debating the details but I dont get into that level, as soon as I get to that detail, I'll stop being creative, can anyone relate to that last line? It looks fine on my machine in IE that's all I care about. Aurabest Al James www.aljames.co.uk |

If you only want it to look good on IE then its a great site. Please do not mistake for what me and Rich say as being negative. We both think it's a great site.
As an amateur site I think it looks very professional. Mozilla and firefox are alternatives to IE. Sorry for confussing you and taking over your thread. Jas

Sorry Al for going off on one... it really is a nice site, it just raises some interesting questions for those of us who play at this all day. If you're just beginning I am really impressed and I wish you all the best.

Guys, I wasn't being funny about your comments, that's just the way I talk, I don't think for one moment anyone was being negative or wide, in fact, you are very positive and constructive, dare I say 'nice'. I'm used to posting new compositions on tipsheet.com forum only to be blasted down by real 'ugly on the inside' - u guys are worlds apart and I appreciate the comments.
