www.cube-online.co.uk

Take at look at: http://www.cube-online.co.uk

It's a site my girlfriend and I have set up as an online portfolio of her ceramics and paintings. We're hoping to have online credit card ordering up and running within the next couple of weeks (the backend's built - just waiting on the bank).

Geeky bit - it's coded from scratch in asp.net with a compiled com object at the core. It features a web based admin section allowing us to quickly create new products and sections, and manage orders (including automated order status emails). The site is about 90% dynamically generated including a snazzy xml-based nav bar.

Drop me a line if you're interested in seeing the backend and I'll set you up with a login.

This is my first attempt at .net - I've coded classic asp for 6+ years and finally decided to get my finger out and learn .net. Very impressed so far!

Please feel free to give us any feedback, plus I'd never say no to anyone who wants to link to the site

Cheers - James & Jules

Very nice! ASP.net does rock! If you can get it to XHTML standards then it'll get a full 10/10 from me!

The artwork isn't to my taste though, however I am frequently told I have no taste, apparently long scraggy girly hair and ripped jeans does not show taste!

Site is great and the artwork is amazing. The photos really show off the vibrant colours used in the pieces and the simplicity and neatness in the look of the website I think really enhances that.

Are you planning to release / sell the software you've written to run the site?

I really like the 'How it's done' and inspiration / sketch book areas of the site, they are a really nice touch.

I always regret not continuing my interest in art post-GCSE, I did three dimensional studies for that and loved it! I really like the small pieces, the detail is fantastic, they look gorgeous. The marine life resemblance really gives the pieces a feel of life and movement, they look really good - I want one!

Cheers Liam,

Much appreciated feedback - you certainly made Jules happy!

Wow, well it looks like we've achived what we wanted - we wanted a site where the art sold itself, which was easy to navigate but retained a personal quality!

As for the software, it's written in a way that it can easily be re-used and we've already mananged to sell two copies to people we know based on what they've seen of Julias site!

Things are looking up!

Thanks again for the feedback -

James & Jules

very nice artwork, very nice site.

My girlfriend is also into art, and I am also in the progress of making her a website. Never actually considered selling the art, I'm not too sure if we could do that, she lacks motivation.

www.emma-robson.co.uk is the site I've been working on, well okay for about ½ an hour. Going for a contempory look, but considering a change. I don't know about other people, but I always seem to go through a few different designs before I get one that feels right the topic/content of the site, something in my head can work, but once I see it I'm sometimes unsure (this design I am unsure ). I keep the old designs I have made, just in case they will work on another site

Yeah I think it's okay, but my brother wants a website making for his wedding, so I thought with a different colour scheme it might suit that better. I've got another design in mind for this site at now anyway, in my list of TODO's, well actually it's more like a book than a list

One of my sub-domains is C# ASP.NET and full XHTML Strict, do I get 10/10? digipix.dlpwd.co.uk however the admin section isn't XHTML Strict because the server adds a hidden viewstate value even though I've disabled viewstate and for some reason the W3C validator doesn't like it, so I've tried to minimise the usage of forms so that the public bit is XHTML Strict.

hehehe.

I think I will have to get some of my sites up, once I've made them, to get 'WhiskyFudge Grading'. You'll have to come up with some 88x31 images for people to post on their sites!

Tables should only be used to show table of information, not for layout of web pages.

Tables can be much better for layout than div tags especially for cross-resolution rendering of a site. I used divs for a time but they really annoy me now. Many people see using tables as a good way of doing it and so do I. On a sidenote, what do you think of the gallery? a little thing I created in flash

The flash section is good, I like how the border changes according to the size/layout of the image. I would like to see the first image already loaded upon the first viewing of the flash object.

From that document you linked to:
Quote:
The HTML table model allows authors to arrange data -- text, preformatted text, images, links, forms, form fields, other tables, etc. -- into rows and columns of cells.
I'll look into that flash suggestion later when I get time, sounds like a good idea tho, thanks.
