commands not recognised

I having trouble getting my vps to recognise commands. for instance, with Surgemail, I am supposed to be able to cd to a directory, then:

webmail.exe -password newpass or
surgemail -password

I get to the directory, but it gives webmail.exe command not found etc.

Have you checked the file exists?

does it make any difference if you do:-

./webmail.exe -password newpass

not sure what else it could be, is 1339 a webmail error code ?

Just checking, that is a Linux binary? Not a Windows .exe? (just checking).

Have you checked that the path to the binary is in your PATH?

Code:
export PATH=$PATH:/path/to/the/folder/webmail.exe/is/in
